Favorite Images of 2016

Overall I think 2016 was a good year for me. I got to go to some amazing places including three of Wonders of the World: The Coliseum, Machu Picchu, and The Great Wall. It was a busy year and travel in many ways felt like my only escape. Work was incredibly busy. We also moved at the beginning of the year into a townhouse in NW Portland. I’m still extremely excited about our new place but it took a lot of energy moving in and getting situated. Between the move and work, I didn’t get time to do much personal photography other than what happened during travel which was a little bit of a bummer. In 2017 I am going to try and find time to improve my personal photos.  I recently purchased a drone and I’m excited to do some aerial photography with it. READ MORE

Fall Color in Vermont

20161022_nn__n5d1389-edit-recoveredMy favorite season of the year by far is Autumn. For a while now I’ve been wanting to see and photograph the color in New England during Autumn. This year to help celebrate my wife’s 30th birthday we decided to take a weekend getaway to see the color in Vermont. We flew up to Boston, then drove to Vermont and stayed in Manchester. It was a great trip, the color was incredible and the photos were beyond my expectations. I look forward to another trip in a future fall to this amazing area. Here is a few selection of my favorite images from our trip:

Fall Creek Trail – Central Oregon

Water cascading over a fallen log along Fall Creek in Central Oregon

I just wanted to share a few photos from a trip I took over to Central Oregon a few weeks ago. We got up early on a Sunday morning and went exploring looking for a waterfall I had heard about. I never found the falls…. I think I needed to travel farther along the trail but didn’t have enough time.

I did get a few nice photos from the outing:

A Bandon Sunset

Howling Dog Sea Stack at Sunset, Bandon, Oregon.

Bandon is probably the most beautiful spot I’ve been to on the Oregon Coast. It was my first time photographing the area and was amazed by the gorgeous beach and incredible sea stacks. It really was a photographers paradise. I was speaking to a friend Yesterday and he made the comment that you could spend a week shooting this beach and still not get bored! While doing my research I found a particular Sea Stack that caught my aptly nicknamed Howling Dog (Above – *corrected by a local expert I originally misidentified the sea stack as wizards hat another local seastack). We were fortunate enough to get a really fantastic sunset and wonderful moody blues highlights of orange. My last few attempts to shoot a sunset on the coast have been fruitless and made this epic sunset that much more bittersweet.

Landscape photography to me is a very meditative process. It requires slowing down, taking in and enjoying your surroundings.
