Favorite Images of 2016

Overall I think 2016 was a good year for me. I got to go to some amazing places including three of Wonders of the World: The Coliseum, Machu Picchu, and The Great Wall. It was a busy year and travel in many ways felt like my only escape. Work was incredibly busy. We also moved at the beginning of the year into a townhouse in NW Portland. I’m still extremely excited about our new place but it took a lot of energy moving in and getting situated. Between the move and work, I didn’t get time to do much personal photography other than what happened during travel which was a little bit of a bummer. In 2017 I am going to try and find time to improve my personal photos.  I recently purchased a drone and I’m excited to do some aerial photography with it. READ MORE

Photos from Japan

As a country I absolutely loved Japan. The people were extremely friendly, the city very clean and the culture very unique. We traveled there at the end of November. I already posted about China and my favorite images from that part of our journey. Below are some of my favorite images from Japan. We spent the entire time in Tokyo. I can’t wait to go back and explore other parts of the country. One highlight was the Tsukiji fish market. Such a neat place and so much happening.

Our favorite thing to eat in Tokyo was the delicious Ramen.

Imperial Garden

In November I spent a week traveling in China and Japan. I took a small camera and a couple of lenses to travel light on our trip. It was our first time exploring in both countries. Our trip started out Beijing at the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square then we took a road trip to see the great wall up in the mountains. While at the Great Wall it snowed and the wall turned to a sheet of ice. It was a little treacherous navigating. I saw at least half a dozen people slip and fall on the ice. One Frenchman almost took my wife out at the edge of the stairs. That could have ended badly! The Great Wall really is a wonder of the world and even though the weather made it difficult to photograph the experience was amazing.

Here are some of my favorite images from China:

Kaylee: High School Senior

The fall in Portland is an amazing time to photograph High School Seniors. There are a ton of great spots downtown to get both the urban vibe and fall color. Here are a few favorite images from a high school senior shoot I did last month.
