Arab Roots – Portrait Shoot

Portrait of Casey --- Copyright 2012 Nick Nieto

For a while now Casey and I have been planning on doing a small portrait session to commemorate her “Arab” Roots. She was born in Saudi Arabia and therefore has a very deep connection to that part of the world and ultimately left her a desire to see the world and learn more about other cultures. While we were in Morocco we kept seeing women in all types of dress from the conservative and traditional to more western clothing. We wanted to put together a little shoot to share both parts and I love the results.

On the technical side of things – this was an opportunity to try a new lighting modifier. I recently got an Apollo medium softbox and this was the perfect opportunity to try it out experiment with it. I really liked it and felt it had a great balance of softness but at the same time being very directional and controllable. I had another light behind her just to add a bit of glow and rim to her shape.

I hope you like it. Let me know if you have any thoughts / ideas / or Critiques.

Finally riding off into the Sunset

I just posted my very last image to flickr from our adventure overseas to London / Morocco / + Paris. I’ve already written about how amazing the trip was so I won’t get into too much details about that. What I will do is post a link to the entire series for you to check out if you haven’t been following it on flickr.

Spring came for an evening…

My brother was in town over the weekend visiting and he is really into making videos and timelapses. Spring seemed to come briefly over the weekend (as it is now pouring rain) and the evening was beautiful on Saturday so we decided that it would be really cool to go down to the Portland riverfront. I would do some photographs and he would do some videos of the sun setting on the city. As soon as he posts his video I’ll post a link to it.

Casey + I down at the river - taken by my brother Mike.

The whole experience was a lot of fun, though I know my patient wife got a bit chilly waiting for us! I will have to stop down by the river again in the future for some more images. If anyone is interested in meeting up for a shoot soon let me know.

Adventure Recap

Marrakech - Click Image to Enlarge

As it’s been almost two weeks since I have gotton home from my multi-continental adventure with my wonderful wife Casey. I think I have had an appropriate time to rest, reflect, and process images and thoughts about the trip. After thinking about it, I think this trip was one of our most successful trips ever and for that I would like to share these thoughts with you.
